Scheme Of Reactive Power Compensation

Use of shunt capacitors for reactive power compensation

Shunt capacitor in the power network are mainly used to compensate for the inductive reactive power to improve the power factor. Large numbers of shunt capacitors are working in power system, with capacity reaching approximately 40% to 50% of installation capacity of electric generator. As a reactive power compensation devices, the significant advantage of capacitors are:

1, the most economical equipment, its investment and operating costs are relatively low and its installation simple.

2, Its loss low and efficiency high; modern capacitor’s loss is only 0.02% of their capacity.

3, stationary equipment, with simple operation and maintenance, and no noise.

4, wide range of applications. It can be installed in the center substation, and can also be distributed into factories, mines.

Shunt capacitor is the most used reactive power compensation equipment in grid. Till now, 90% of the reactive power compensation devices at home and abroad are based on shunt capacitors, the occasion of use are:

1, Installed at the user end, high-voltage distribution lines or in the substation to improve power factor and voltage quality.

2, Installed at the hub of substation, with a vacuum or SF6 circuit breaker switching, in order to maintain the grid voltage, and increase public static angle stability.

3, Installed in HVDC system, to compensate reactive power required for converter station.

4, Installed in SVC, SVG and STATCOM, etc., and can serve as filtering devices.

Scheme of reactive power compensation

For users with load at high-voltage 3 ~ 10kV side, it is recommended after consider the need for low-voltage compensation, set the HPAC series of high-voltage reactive power automatic compensation equipment, HPIC series of high-voltage reactive power integrative compensation equipment or HPLC series of high-voltage reactive power terminal compensation equipment.

Where HPAC suit for user whose load at high-voltage side is big and need for reactive power change over time, intelligent HPJK-A series compensation control and protection Device can automatically switch and protect the compensation capacitors, according to the power factor and reactive power composite analysis, achieving the goal of power factor optimization.

Where HPIC suit for user whose load at high-voltage side is big and stable, This equipment is fixed compensation, and is protected by its own income cabinet. HPIC can also serve as compensation assmebly on 35kV.

Where HPLC suit for user who has huge-capacity motors at high-voltage side, intelligent HPJK-L series compensation monitoring and protection Device can provide comprehensive protection to the compensation capacitor.

For users with huge and changing need of reactive power at low-viltage side (With many loads and switching frequently), It is recommended to setLPAC\LPFC series of low-voltage reactive power automatic compensation equipment or LPLC series of low-voltage reactive power terminal compensation equipment.

Where LPAC\LPFC suit for user who has many loads and switching frequently, intelligent controller LPJK can automatically switch the compensation capacitors, according to the power factor and reactive power composite analysis, achieving the goal of power factor optimization.

For users with only a small amount of low-voltage motor, LPLC can be used directly connected in shunt with the motor, resulting in a better power factor.
